Background

Deputy Director of the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning of the Mykolaiv City Council, Yevgeny Polyakov, said that Mykolaiv became a participant in an international project to rebuild Ukrainian cities after the war, coordinated by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and the Ministry of Regional Development.

"The work on the master plan will continue for more than a year. This document will determine the development of the city not just for years, but for decades. Therefore, it requires more time. We are also conducting a survey among citizens in parallel to identify key areas for the development of the city. Now we have a superficial analysis. We will complete the current survey in May 2023."

The New General Plan

The tasks that will be prescribed in the General Plan will be determined taking into account the public opinion of society. For this purpose the Mykolaiv city council organized poll among townspeople. The questionnaire with a list of questions was developed by the experts of the international architectural company "OneWorks". The questionnaire was built from 28 items. Among them are questions about the use of public transport, the level of satisfaction with various areas of life and the definition of objects that are worth restoring, and on the site of which something new can be built.

The mayor noted that the plan will contain investment projects (technoparks, industrial parks), and will also determine the directions for the development of three main infrastructure areas – water supply, heat supply & solid waste management.
